My First Library Card: Volusia County Public Library Launches a Special Kids Card

Volusia County Public Library is excited to introduce a vibrant new initiative for children: the "My First Library Card" campaign.
What is the "My First Library Card"?
This specially designed, kid-friendly library card celebrates a child's first steps into a lifelong love of reading. Created to encourage early literacy, the "My First Library Card" is available to children receiving their very first library card, marking a big milestone in their reading journey. The colorful design reflects the wonder and imagination books bring into children's lives.
Why it matters for early literacy
A library card is one of a child's most powerful tools. It opens doors to books and educational resources that support school readiness, vocabulary development, and a love of learning. It also supports Florida's Grade-Level Reading Campaign, which aims to ensure every child reads on grade level by the end of third grade—an essential benchmark for lifelong success.
“We want every child in Volusia County to feel the joy of having a library card just for them,” said Lucinda Colee, Volusia County Public Library Director. “This campaign is part of the library’s commitment to supporting early literacy and helping families build strong reading habits from the start.”
